Further info for February

Extra competition for C graders

Calling all new and novice C graders and also A graders who would like to share their knowledge and expertise for a few weeks as a mentor.

This is an extra informal competition that is aimed at those in C grade who have never entered a competition before or who don’t feel very confident in entering.  You will be paired with a mentor prior to help you with your entry. Your mentor will help you with sizing, how to enter on the website and with the images. You can submit one or two. We highly recommend two!

You will have until Tuesday 31 March to get your images submitted to the website. There will be an informal judging at the club meeting on Tuesday 7th April where images will be displayed on the big screens.

We would like expressions of interest from both C graders who would like to enter this competition and A graders who would like to be a mentor, this will be a great sharing and learning experience! Get involved!

Please register your interest to [email protected] as soon as possible, final cut off would be Sunday 1/03/20

Once we have numbers we can arrange mentors and their mentees.

Club nght Tuesday 18th February – Guest speaker – Daniel Wong

Daniel is a very talented landscape photographer who lives in Christchurch. He has his PSNZ and international letters and is also a doctor.

What a wonderful opportunity for the club to have him speak especially with landscape submissions due March 18th.

This is his face book page – there are some amazing images https://www.facebook.com/pg/DanielWongPhotography/about/?ref=page_internal

Wednesday 19th Febraury – 1st Open closes

Don’t forget to get your entries in. I know I am excited for the first judging. A guide on how to enter competitions can be found under the resources tab – club documents – competiton rules.

Next month is landsapce – looking forward to maybe seeing some Daniel Wong inspired works.

This is from the club rules for landscape:

4.6 Landscape Portraying – the beauty of the wider vista, including sky and seascapes. This can be natural or urban, unless expressly stated otherwise. Natural landscapes can contain people or buildings, etc, provided they are not the dominant feature. Urban landscapes would be a city/town/urban scene, with emphasis on structures or landscape rather than people. This can be a detail or wider shot. BASIC EDITING ONLY.

Basic editing definition:

BASIC EDITING – cropping, exposure adjustment, white balance adjustment, sharpening, contrast, focus stacking, panoramic stitching, exposure blending, and dust spot removal are the types of editing permitted. Generally, these are expected to be kept minimal, and no changes to the content of the scene are permitted.

RPS Survey 2020

Aim: To collect insight into how well we are meeting the expectations of members. Based on responses here, the Committee Team may be able to adjust the programme in order to meet the needs and perhaps expand on our scope of activities.
