Dates for May

Saturday 2 May – this was supposed to be a field trip to Ashworth’s beach for Astrophotography. Obviously this is postponed. I challenge each of you to get outside that night and give some ‘astro’ a try. Astrophotography by definition is taking a photograph of an object in space. Get creative (I know you all are!) and give something a go. I have looked at my moon app thingy and the moon will be at 63% and will set after midnight. If you don’t make it that night give any night a crack! I will ask the awesome Veronica to make an album on Facebook where we can share our efforts. If anyone has any links that members would find useful please also put these on the Facebook page.

Tuesday 5 May – this night we were going to have a tutorial on “creative images” This is one of my favourite types of photography. Anything goes? Youtube, Facebook and Instagram are all littered with many great ideas and tutorials. A simple google search will give you a great starting point with pages galore! Again I challenge you to give something a try!

This link below was sent to me by Cheryl Muirson and this is something I will be trying very soon

Tuesday 19 May – Natural History Judging

Results will be published on the website

Wednesday 20 May – Portraiture entries close

Wonder if we are going to see a few selfies entered this year?

4.11 Portrait Portrays a likeness of a person or group of people/animals. The focus of the image should be the face/expression although the whole form may be included. Studio or environmental portraits, candid or posed, are acceptable. No editing restrictions.

Other stuff

C grade confidence builder – get in contact with your mentor/mentees and get those entries in – this has been postponed till we have an actual club meeting

The committee is continuing to meet virtually and it is interesting to get a peek into everyone’s homes. We are looking at ways to get people involved during the time that we are unable to meet. Online challenges continue as do the regular graded competitions.

News from the committee:

Treasurer – we have the lovely Catherine Boyd standing in as treasurer until the next AGM? She can be contacted by email [email protected]

Don’t forget the weekly photo challenges on Facebook, they are a bit of creative fun and open to anyone https://www.facebook.com/groups/rangioraphotosoc/?epa=SEARCH_BOX

We now have an Instagram page thanks to Ross Lawler

Joke time!!!

A journalist photographer was caught out in a rain shower when he saw a dark gloomy house. While he was drying off in the house he heard scary sounds and saw a ghost coming towards him. He grabbed his camera to take pictures. The ghost asked him what he was doing, he said “I just want to take your picture for the newspaper.” The ghost was glad for the exposure and posed for the photographer. When his film was all done he thanked the ghost and rushed to his office to get the film developed. When he saw the results he was terribly disappointed that they all came out black – they were all underexposed. The moral of the story is: The spirit was willing but the flash was weak.

Stay safe, stay home and be kind! Get involved, get creative and get taking more photographs!!!!!!!!!
